How does engineering design enhance the learning experience?
High-Quality Lesson Design is the last pillar of the eIM for us to explore. Through High-Quality Lesson Design, teachers create lessons that promote authentic, self-directed learning, meet the needs of diverse learners, and use varied assessments aligned to standards.
To bridge the eIM to engineering design, eMINTS has created the Design Through Inquiry (DTI) Model, a framework you can use to plan and implement design-based learning experiences for students. The DTI Model incorporates the 5E Instructional Model with engineering design and design thinking.
Section Outcomes
In this section, we will investigate High-Quality Lesson Design, a pillar of the eMINTS Instructional Model, by:
being introduced to engineering design.
identifying a design challenge for use in your classroom.
exploring the Design Through Inquiry Model (DTI) as a framework for implementing design experiences in the classroom.
investigating the engineering practices in the Next Generation Science Standards.
planning strategies for helping students ask questions and define engineering design problems.
